Carbonless OMR sheet
What are carbonless OMR Sheets?
Two copies of OMR sheet are attached back to back where first copy is relatively thick and is taken in the examination hall for checking. The second copy is a thin paper copy with a carbonless coating which the candidate can take home for reference as exact replica of the sheet submitted for evaluation. Simple mechanism is used where candidate fills a bubble on the sheet creates a black mark on the replica copy. Candidate can report if he finds some discrepancy in the results.
Paper Details:
- The first part which is taken by the examination body for OMR Copy Checking is thicker
- The total of 2 parts is 180 GSM. Generally the paper thickness is GSM (first sheet) + 65 GSM (second sheet) + coating. In some cases paper thickness is 90 GSM + 90 GSM.
- The second part is covered with chemical coating which becomes black with minor pressure
- Two different colour sheets are used to mark the difference between two copies
Due to cost involved, Carbonless OMR sheets are not used widely but only in sensitive government recruitment exams.
Why carbonless OMR sheets are used?
- To avoid manipulation in sensitive exams like government recruitment process
- To avoid many ways of manipulation like one can enter extra bubble for negative marking
- To avoid letting down of certain candidates by putting extra bubbles
- Scope of reporting by candidate remains for difference in his self-checked result and the result declared by examination body. Then they can lodge a request to revalidate, re evaluate or explain the case
- Scope of manipulation gets minimized if a candidate has answered all the questions
- Candidates can check the paper as examination bodies also update the answer key on their website after the examination
- Carbonless sheets are a good concept to safeguard the suffering student
- It happens in few instances where false mischievous complaints and claims are made. These irresponsible complaints are also reduced by benefit of carbonless sheets, as candidate has to submit his copy of carbonless sheet
