OMR Scanning Machine

The OMR scanning machine, also called the OMR scanner, is a machine that was used to scan the OMR sheets earlier. Attached to a computer, this machine did the scanning and reading of the OMR sheets simultaneously and then transferred the data into the computer. This data was processed by result calculation analysis software to derive at the final result. However, today, this long and tedious process has been made easy with the latest OMR technology.

The OMR software is a technology that reads as well as evaluates scanned OMR sheets. It is speedy as it can read three to five OMR sheets in a second. The features of the OMR software has made it popular and turned the old OMR machine obsolete. Here are the reasons why the old OMR scanning machine is no longer used.

These machines are very expensive. Their price range is between Rs. two lacs and Rs. fifteen lacs.

• There are no companies in India that manufacture OMR scanning machines. As they have to be imported from foreign countries, their cost increases automatically.

• One could order these machines only in the big cities.

• The OMR scanning machines would work properly only if special thick papers were used. Also, these sheets could be printed only by OMR sheet printers. It was necessary to place the printing order much in advance to ensure timely delivery.

• The cost of the special papers is around Rs. 2, thus automatically increasing the cost of printing and scanning OMR sheets.

The new OMR technology is affordable and does not require any expensive equipment like a special scanner. Due to this, the OMR scanner machine is no longer used.
